I didn't know the existence of this forum...so I just checked on the internet for London gay saunas...and I chose Chariots Waterloo on a Friday night [3 a.m]: definitely not the best choice! But I have to admit that one of my aims was to sleep overnight too [blush]. Anyway, my choice was based on it being within a central location and the famed chain name.
The admission fee was 12 quid, expensive enough for what I was to find inside: obviously empty, just few bodies wandering aimlessly and the atmosphere wasn't very welcoming...it got a bit busy though at the steamroom...but it soon stopped due to a bitchy asian messing around. The rest of customers also looked a bit insolent when checking if you were worth their time...
Half of the cubicles were busy though, and apart from the regular sleepers, you could find a nice surprise sometimes: few nerdy twinks wanking together [one of them wearing glasses, hence the 'nerdy' touch] in what looked like a 'Open Doors Night', older audiences were rejoicing together at the sight of such a heavenly scene. In the dark path-corridor that links the video room [packed with grandpas sleeping over] with other cubicles there was the terrible show of a young [hustler?] tossing in front of some ugly ducklings in what seemed a desperate try to attract some customer...and since I didn't wear my glasses I couldn't fully appreciate what was really going on...
But apart from the occassional bizarreness, it was pretty boring....after learning by heart all the spots, walking with my eyes closed all the corridors and condescending to receive a good blowjob from a decent middle-aged guy I went straight to look for the best cubicle to sleep a little bit until dawn: it didn't suppose a problem since nearly everybody were doing the same and it was too damn peaceful...
Although I fastened the rather loosened lock, I got disturbed few times, and sometimes I'd find myself waking up at the feeling of something awkward happening nearby...I woke up with the sensation of being in a haunted place....empty saunas can get pretty creepy after all!
About the facilities: generally speaking it looked it was a clean place albeit the weird smell of piss mixed with bleach that you get in the showers and the steamroom, the cubicles were a bit dingy and if you didn't tread carefully, you could get your feet suddenly dirty with something [they don't give you slippers or flip-flops at the entrance], the staff was a little ill-bred, just there to cash in and mop a little bit from time to time...I have to say that there was an abundant supply of condoms and lube on every corner.
So!, another London shithole explored....I love the city but I'd never return there unless there is some special offer. I hope that my future visits to other saunas will balance this first experience. Perhaps, I was kind of challenged by the fact of being in London....I'm from Barcelona and so far, saunas are better in my native city: I miss the touch of friendly people and having loads of fun even if you are a two-bagger!!
So, if someone wants to change my biased vision about London saunas just give me a nod!
Thanks for reading!
Saludos! Cheers!

Positive aspects of this sauna (pros):
|
Very clean and spacious, Lockabale room and dimmer lights, loads of lube and condom dispensers.
|
|
Negative aspects of this sauna (cons):
|
No jacuzzi, Appalling video lounge with small TV screens and sloping mattresses, weird.
|
|
The strange thing about this place is the continual tour round that people go on, badly needs a focal pioint like a good video lounge and a jacuzzi. Good rooms and nice showers, and steam room. Nice action with friendly guys if you can just stop them moving round the place.

Ok I know this might come as a shock to a lot of you but my experience at Chariots was once again dissapointing. The place was empty, and most of the other cruisers were let's put it this way - octogenarians.
So I had to do the unthinkable for a student, spend another 13 quid to go to Pleasuredome. And man Pleasuredrome rocks. Three fucks and innumerable hugs and kisses. Sadly, Chariots ain't for me.

Lower Marsh Street gets a bit deserted in the night.

I was there on Friday night and the place was empty. It may be just a case of bad miss so will try again.

Centrally situated, large and friendly, pleasant staff .

Negative aspects of this sauna (cons):

The common areas can be a bit chilly in cold weather.

One of the popular Chariot's chain. Large and busy with very big sauna and steamroom. Cruisy and well-attended with little or no "attitude". The staff and customers are pleasant.
Video room, glory holes, private cubicles and all for only £11.00 a visit. They also do loyalty cards so regulars (of which there are many) save money. A mixture of ages from 20s to 80s. Well worth a visit!
