Fitladz Fitladz Fitladz Fitladz Fitladz Fitladz

Description: The Friday night dance and cruise sensation returns. Back in its original home, albeit a name change, on the Vauxhall scene at super-cool new venue Union.

Union has undergone a huge multi-thousand pound refurbishment since its days as Crash and now has even more to be discovered and cruised.

Now with five cruising zones, including new darkrooms, even more amsterdam style cruise cabins than before, porn cinema, super huge scally-maze and the return of the foot and sock lounge - complete with worship area's. Indulge your pleasure....

If cruise isn't your thing, then check out the dance floor for the horniest soundtrack in Vauxhall! The new main room boasts the Avalon soundsystem with Fitladz original residents Devilish & PJay spinning a dirty soundtrack.

Arriving late (again) I found out Id missed not only happy hour by a couple of hours, but DJ Devilishs set too! All was not lost I caught the back end of (new) resident DJ Allesandros set followed by PJays set.

My tastes in music are fairly varied, but I think the dirty house mixes being played at Fitladz are really great (understated word to describe it, but Im not that young and me using words like wicked and sick is just naff). Ive even downloaded a couple of podcasts to play in my car, often in preference to my usual driving music.

Fitladz is becoming a very popular Friday night destination as the main bar was pretty busy, with its laser creating some mesmerizing patterns over the floor and walls. It was great to see a good proportion of people in sportswear, reinforcing the Fitladz roots. Not sure what they made of my skinhead gear, but who gives a fuck!

The back bar is still quite quiet but provides probably the darkest (but not too dark) and sexiest netted cruise area Ive seen, thanks to the banging sounds and great lighting effects. Taking a peek in the cruise areas, I found a huge number of guys having fun Oi Oi

Props to promoter Steve Darragh for sticking with his vision and giving us great dance and cruise night.

Arriving later than planned just before 2am I was lucky enough to see the Mr Deepthroat 2008 finals. The main bar was heaving with a real crowd of FitLadz witnessing the sword swallowing spectacle on the stage. After two rounds, FitLadz regular Ade walked away with the highest score of the night a whopping 10.5. I witnessed a number of different techniques each contestant had a different way of tackling the challenge. Who knows they may become useful should I want to dislodge my tonsils

Since my last visit some weeks back, the competition from next door (RudeBoyz) have thrown in the towel. This has been reflected in the increased number and types of punter. What remains to be seen is whether this will erode FitLadz strong core visual image. Whether this becomes the case or not, I expect the teams newly launched TNT (Trackies n Trainers) event on Thursday nights will ensure Vauxhall retains a dance/cruise club with a strong scally/chav contingent.

Once again I was not disappointed with the sounds DJ Devilish had pumping out in the main bar. I didnt spend a great deal of time in the play area, but it did appear to be busy, as usual. Instead I spent the rest of the night enjoying the music and chatting to a few guys.

I think the only criticism I would make about last Fridays event was the bar staff didnt seem particularly on the ball.

Well what can I say about my second trip to FitLadz? It was some weeks ago (been a busy boy) but the memories are certainly at the front of my muddled mind despite a slutty weekend in Berlin since.

Arriving earlier than my last visit certainly made for a more eventful night. By half past midnight the cruise areas were very busy which meant lots of fun could be had early on before relaxing at the bar. I dont normally think a lot of gogos, but there is one particular lad, who apart from being as fit as f*ck, is one hell of a sexy mover. This time I was able to catch the back end of PJays set before being treated to some dirty great tunes from Devilish.

A somewhat surreal twist to the night was made by some Swiss guys who wanted to bring some dirty fun to the main bar. Rather than getting down to it in a dark area they decided to start playing around by the bar. I wrongly assumed they were hired for the job, but when I spoke to them outside later it turns out they were just a bunch of horny fit ladz having fun on just alcohol and poppers.

Cant wait for my next visit as well as having great fun with great music, I think this is going to be one of those events where the unexpected will always be happening

Pros:
Cons:

Its been nigh on 6 months since Fitladz disappeared for a break and I for one missed its unique mix of music and cruising. When I heard it was to return to Union aka the venue formerly known as Depot/formerly known as Crash, I definitely wanted to check it out.

Arriving later than Id expect at 1:30am, with a straggling Munchkin in tow, I was firstly pleased to see it was still very busy and secondly blown away (no pun intended - yet) by the changes to the venue.

I didnt dislike Depot, but Union feels far more like Crash in atmosphere but cleaner and more interesting. Add to this the great sound system upgrades and a thumping set being spun by Devilish (wed missed PJays set), we were most impressed and wed only just got in the door. Exploring the larger/back dance and cruise area revealed further developments to the venue which look fantastic.

Having spent quite a bit of time taking things in it was time for a cruise and there are certainly plenty of areas to keep the night interesting.

The Fitladz crew had made a real effort with this re-launch including some of the fittest Go-Go dancers Ive ever laid my eyes on. Oh and drinks prices were reasonable - 3 a can of beer. I think.

Anyone who is fed up with the usual Vauxhall music policies should give Fitladz a try even if cruising isnt their cup of tea. A week on and Im still thinking about the whole vibe of the place and can only imagine what it will be like if it gets the support I believe it deserves.

A long time ago in a gay strip
far far away

*** Fitladz ***

*** Chapter 6 - The return of the Fitladz ***

Ok Im being silly (oh alright then, sad) but the analogy with Star Wars isnt that far off - Steve Darragh and his crew are the Rebel Alliance, and the baddies (who shall remain nameless) are the evil Galactic Empire.

The good news is that after its brief holiday over at the The Arches (home of XXL) under the moniker of Britladz, the proper Fitladz is back in Vauxhall with its new base at Club Colossuem.

Myself and the crowd of stragglers Id picked up on the way entered from the rear. No really, there are now two entrances to the Colosseum! Unfortunately wed arrived a bit late at the party and had missed much of the fun. However, our initial reactions to the new venue were positive.

It looks like the Colossuem is back on the map with a number of independent nights taking up residency there. I think its going to take promoters and punters a while to settle back into the venue, but its got loads of potential.

Ill just have to make another trip sooner rather than later to carry out a proper review

Pros:
Cons:

The team at Fitladz have decided to shake things up by moving things round and starting a weekly competition for the 'Face of Fitladz 2008' which starts at 12:30am.

So this is what they've done move the cruise cabin area to the smaller [Albert Embankment] end of the venue, allowing punters easy access to the both the cabins and dark area upstairs. The main floor is now for dancing and the Face of Fitladz competition.

Unfortunately I arrived just before 2am after the first heat of the competition had finished so can't comment on how this went, but judging by the crowd I think I missed out on a real show.

From a dancing / music perspective I'm not sure if the change around is for the best now that the bar and cruise area is in the same end, I think the dance floor will suffer. Time will tell.

Crash seem to be keeping their promise of minimal maintenance until the January refit all the loos did seem lockable.

Pros: Does the job
Cons: Lager prices, Venue toilets still a mess.

After a "few" pre-club beers with some fellow Munchkins next door in Barcode, I didn't have very far to stagger to my (current) favourite night for some naughty fun on a Friday night in Vauxhall.

Most of the early crowd must have been there more for the cruising / boozing as the dance floor was empty, in spite of some good tunes blasting out.

If you're heading to Fitladz from another venue you might consider timing your arrival for after 12:30am as things don't really get going until the main cruise area opens and it's obviously many of the early crowd were waiting for the action to begin. Once the doors into the main arch opened the bar area became less congested.

Fitladz is one of few London dance and cruise nights unashamedly aimed at the sports-kit-wearing-council type crowd and in my opinion is the best all rounder at the moment if that's what you are looking for. You do get some genuine lads in this place some chav staggered in off the street and his first request at the bar was for some ice for his broken thumb! If you are looking for sophistication this is not the place to be.

As I'd been on the lash for a while and had things to do during the day, I called it a night about 2am. I certainly had a good time, and though the numbers seemed down since my last visit, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Pros:
Cons: Dark toliets.

Arriving just after 11:30pm I was pleased to see a fair number of guys already in the venue, and better still, at the bar drinks promotions were available on Becks and spirits / mixers. The night starts in the smaller of the two rooms which is home to the dance floor for the night. The upstairs cruise area is open all night and people were wandering in and out already.

Sounds wise things started a bit heavier than I expected, which certainly gave things a more sexually charged feel. Not a lot of people were dancing early on, but then again trying to mix cruising and dancing has always been a challenge for promoters.

At 12:30 the (darkened) main room was opened, decorated with netting and a number of cabins in middle of the dance floor. Music was slightly funkier than the second room and people soon moved through to explore.

By 1am there were enough people in the venue so it didnt seem really quiet in either room and as the night went on, the crowd in the second room filled up with more of the typical Crash punter, I guess taking advantage of an early start to their weekend.

Now that the whole "no mingers or old gits" thing has been dropped from the advertising you get a right mixed crowd looking for some fun. This is definitely no longer a place aimed at just young scallies, and like many cruise nights this wasn't a particularly friendly crowd where it's easy to chat - people tended to be in groups and those on their own were there primarily for the cruising.

My main complaint was the toilets far too dark which just made them feel really dirty (not in a good way!)

For a Friday nighter, this night reminded me of Substation South's Dirty Dishes which was always one of my favourite ways of starting the weekend. Will definitely be going back...

Pros: Good value (especially with flyer), drinks promos, top-notch DJs.
Cons: Venue getting a bit past it.

I'd been out in Soho for more than a few drinks with a couple of mates when one of them decides he wanted to go to Fitladz at Crash. I'd never been to Fitladz before and, being a Crash at Crash fanboy, I thought I'd give it a go. Nothing ventured, nothing gained...

The reason I'd never been to Fitladz before was more a matter of prejudice than something based on first or even second-hand experience. The guy on the flyer may have been pretty sexy but I was sure that he wouldn't be very representative of the crowd and besides, it was a club that existed for the sexier side of clubbing, how could I dance?

We arrived at about twelve thirty and navigated security and the cloakroom very easily (Crash's security and coatcheck are very efficient and friendly) - it wasn't terribly busy, but then it was the weekend after Bank Holiday season and I would have been surprised that anyone had the money or energy left to go out on a Saturday let alone a Friday.

Crash is one of my favourite venues, significant, well configured and (part-time) home to some of the finest DJs on the house-music scene, however it's a venue that's looking very tired and tatty around the edges. I know that Crash's owners are planning a major refurbishment of the venue so I can forgive many of the shortcomings although I do think that a notice advising customers that the venue is due for refurbishment may help people to understand why it's looking a bit past its sell-by date. The friend I was with commented on the state of one of the cubicles - as soon as I put the general state of the venue into context (i.e. major refurbishment due) he seemed OK with it.

The crowd was fairly thin on the dancefloor when we arrived, but then I supposed people hadn't come to dance, so we went to the bar. There was a smattering of people around of a fairly mixed age and appearance, though the majority were younger than me (not that difficult). We bought a couple of drinks (good to see a lager and a vodka and mixer on special offer at a little less than pub prices) and stood in the bar for a chat before setting off to explore...

The dance area in the venue on a Fitladz night is the smaller Room 2 - appropriate because not many people actually danced - with the larger main room taken over by the inevitable cabins, camouflage netting and the like. The corridor formed by placing the cabins about four feet from the back wall created an interesting space which, for most of the night, was almost full. The upper level chill-out between the two dance-floors is given over to a dark room and, again, this was pretty busy all night.

By the time we got back to the dancefloor, I love to dance, I was very pleased to see that Paul Heron had taken to the decks; a great opportunity for me to let off a little steam. I do feel for DJs who have to face a not-very-busy dancefloor, it must be terribly demotivating. He should rest assured though that it was nothing to do with the quality of his work - it was an exemplary set - I just don't think that dancing was very high on many people's agendas.

About 2am the numbers had picked up significantly and whilst not busy by the standards of a dance-club night it was busy enough to be comfortable, and very busy to be uncomfortable in the darker areas if that took your fancy. And, more than just getting busier, about this time the general standard and quantity of 'fit lads' had improved. There were a few stunners, which just went to show me that my own petty prejudice was unfounded.

On the whole, to be honest, I have to say it wasn't really my thing. I like the attention of fit lads (or rather, men) but I prefer to be able to think that I'm getting the attention because of me being me rather than me being somebody, anybody. Not that I have a particular moral standpoint on this kind of thing, you like what you like and as long as everyone plays nice and plays safe, so what? It'd be a boring world if everyone liked the same thing.

Would I go again? Well, yes. Probably not on my own but if I was with a group some wanted to expend some energy without dancing it'd be a decent compromise. I get to dance to a top-notch DJ or two (and get drinks at reasonable prices) and they can, well, get up to 'other activities'. With entry at only a fiver (with a flyer) it's also good value for a Friday, especially if you're expecting an expensive Saturday.

Pros: Improved cruisy area, friendly people, cheap Vodka!
Cons:

Not having been down the Fitladz for a long while, I thought 'what could the harm be?'. This being despite the fact that I was already mighty tipsy and I was moving in with the bf the next day. Oops. However after encouragement from the wife (in the form of 'I had half of G-A-Y last night, I don't see why you shouldn't have fun somewhere) I donned my England rugby shirt and minced on down.

I got there about 11:30 and was greeted by the always friendly crash doorman and the very chatty till person. Up to the quick efficient cloak room and then dowen to the bar for my first house vodka and coke - which at 2.50 a go is a bargain at anytime, not to mention in a Vauxhall club on a Friday!

The first dance floor and bar area were already nicely busy, with people arriving steadily throughout the night - the lighting and music in this room were just right and encouraged more than a fair share of furtive glances between everyone. I had a few drinks and chatted with a few people, then went to check the dark room out - the upstairs one is the same as it was before, and first of all was pretty quiet, however when I went back in later on (several times) it was a massive frenzy of rather cute men up to no good. Top marks in particular to the phwoarsome shaven headed guy with the tattoo on his arm I bumped into...

The back room downstairs was quite a pleasant surprise, as well as being a secondary dance-floor there were some cruise cabins and a kind of back-alley for cruising - this makes for a rather cosy but more open cruise area where you can see what was going on (I personally prefer a cruise room like this, you can see all the filth), it also seemed to have no hindrance on the guys, who after a short whiile were at it everywhere. Wa-Hay!

I'm quite pleased to report that fitladz has improved a lot since I last went (and I enjoyed it then - fit men and cheap drinks are always a winner with me), with any club there's always tuning up process. Can't wait to see what tricks they have up their wizards sleeve in the future (and my next visit!)

Pros:
Cons:

I arrived about midnight and I got a very nice welcome from the guy at the door who told me how to get to the cloak room and who to ask if I need help. Then off to the bar I got a can of Red Stripe and was charged 4, I'm not a big beer drinker but this seemed a little steep to me.

The bar bit in the middle was already very busy when I got in with a few groups of friends chatting but mostly singles hanging around eyeing each other up. I found the atmosphere in here very cruisy and some times found the looks quite uncomfortable.

After my drink I decided to check out the fun bits. Maybe I didn't look in the right place but I couldn't find the cruise cabins or the glory holes, I could only find the dark rooms which I don't like so much any more as I like to see the action. I also found the cruise maze which was just a dark corner of the dance floor covered in a few nets.

I don't think it helped that I wasn't really in the mood, I had planned to go for over a week. I think this kind of club needs to be some thing you do when the feeling is right.

I heard some good sounds from the back so headed for the dance floor. Paul Heron was on the decks playing a very good and uplifting set. At the time I was the only once on the dance floor but after a while a few guys came along but not dance but to stare at me. Again I found this ruined the atmosphere for me so I didn't think there was much for me to stay for and left.

Many of the people there seemed to be enjoying them selves and most of the guys I spoke to said they had been before, had fun and couldn't help but come back for more. Maybe its just not my kind of thing.

Pros: Loads of space to cruise.
Cons:

Fitlads is a really good place for meeting fit lads! The club cares about their customers - because it's a cruise club, the management provides safe / sex info and free condoms and lubrication. Freedom packs are also all over the place, making sure you are safe and have fun.

The small dance floor is for Fitladz to cruise and dance and the bar shows the best porn. The main dance floor now has many cruising cabins (Amsterdam-style) and army camouflage netting and two videoscreens. It also has plenty of toilets, so you don't have to wait for the toilets like in some other clubs.

This club has no attitude, staff are friendly and approachable. So please come and feel at ease.

Pros: Fair priced drinks
Cons: Where do I start?

Fitladz? Er, right. This crowd consisted mainly of weedy looking chavs some of whom had not bothered to put some kit on as in tracksuits, etc. Fit, they are not. Hardly saw any genuine fit guys like the 6-packed dude on the beans can ad, but then very few mortals look like that anyway.

Music was whack generally. DJ did not want to play anything other than what was on his personal playlist. The floor was deserted well before closing time with a lot of cruising and other stuff going on in the loos. The drinks were quite cheap and bar staff were friendly however.

I don't think I will be checking out Fitladz or Chavladz or whatever they want to call it anytime soon. I would say Rudeboyz is better, certainly music-wise. Even the chavs there seem prettier.

Hya Sticky, thanks for mentioning me in your review. Yes, it could have been a disaster, but it was fun. Also met an old flame of mine, and shared it with my French Mini-me...

I'd say the whole place turned into a massive dark room - a different night from the usual Fitladz. The music is getting better every week, and there are always plenty of fitboyz, I just love it!

I gather next week it's going to be great (have had lots of people contacting me for the 22nd, it's payday, init?). Pity there's none till January (and I have to find an excuse to go there - but I will.)

Pros: Great atmosphere, good lighting, friendly crowd.
Cons: No electricity.

Fitladz could have been a total disaster last night but for the professionalism of the team at Crash. There was an electrical fault at a sub station in the area which meant from time to time the lights, music and action were plunged into darkness. The big room at the rear of the venue remained closed which meant the only cruising area was that upstairs. So, we all crammed in. What a party it turned out to be.

There were some very fit and horny boyz at Fitladz this week only to willing to share their young manhoods and Christmas sacks. The music policy has been tweaked and I think they have got it just right now. Devilish played a very good set and is certainly going to be one to watch on the Vauxhall DJ circuit. PJ the DJ was up next and split his set into three distinct segments getting progressively more tech as it neared the end.

There is plenty of feet action at this club now, something I have not seen before. I myself had my trainers and feet licked clean by the most adorable French guy and his Italian friend. They really went to town. More of this in the future please.

This club is a two in one if you are like me and like the dark rooms but your friends will not go with you because they like to dance - this club has both. If you're not into dark rooms you could always poke your cock through the holes in the Amsterdam style cabins.
